If marketing your business on the radio didn’t work, try a podcast.

Be different, stand out!

If you’ve ever tried to market your small business and taken the plunge into radio advertising, one of two things happened.

1. You were wildy successful and continue to spend on radio till this day.

2. You got zero results and you have to remortgage you house for each ad campaign.

I hope number (1) was your result! For many small businesses, at least in my experience, it’s number (2).

I believe the reason is simply because most businesses do not understand radio well enough to put together a campaign that would actually yield results. Even if they did, their budgets don’t allow them to play in that arena. In order to have radio campaigns that really ‘deliver’, you need to be in the realm of Fortune 500 companies. Businesses like banks, casinos or hotels, and other major industries are on every major platform at the highest levels. Just by virtue of the fact that they can afford to be everywhere, they yield results. Or, perhaps it’s just brand recognition they achieve. Who knows?

The landscape has changed. Join the dots.

This is not the case for small businesses. You get approached by a good enough radio airtime salesperson, and before you know it, your butchery is sponsoring the 8’o clock news for the next six months on the local radio station. A hundred grand down, yet your sales are flatlining.

The reality is that the sales guy wants the commission on the sale more than he cares about getting you the results you think you are paying for. Radio is such a great thing to sell because it’s not like you can return it if it doesn’t work out for you. You bought airtime, and now it’s gone. Sorry you didn’t sell anything extra. It doesn’t always turn out like this, but in the grand landscape of social media and podcasts that everybody lives in now, advertising on radio makes almost no sense at all. Unless it’s an ad on or paid for interviews. Other than that, nobody cares if the midday report is brought to you by Karan beef.

Try podcasting for your small business.

Instead, as a small business I would be more inclined to have a look at local podcasts in my area that speak directly to the kind of client I am trying to attract or add bucket loads of value to my industry and then approach that podcast for some sort of brand deal or interview. Then, copy-paste across a number of pods in the area.

Not only will this yield much better results for your business, but it will also give you a much higher level of control and involvement that commercial radio stations simply can’t or won’t allow. They are mostly all old school media houses with old school rules and a board of shareholders that demand higher profits each year. I can hear *fake news* ringing in my ears, I don’t know why.

Whether you are just starting out in your small business or are well established, if you’re not going to start your own podcast, advertise on one. It’s a winning strategy.

Build a podcast while your competitors sleep.

Don’t think outside the box. Kick the box out the window.

The traditional model is dead. It’s time to stop thinking out of the box and rather take all these boxes they’ve been teaching us about since we were in school and kick them out of the proverbial window!

There’s a reason I say this. Innovators in any industry are always laughed at and even victimized by the industries they aim to disrupt. But, more often than not, it’s those disruptors that change the world for the better. Podcasting for business is a perfect example.

A podcasting marketing strategy is cheaper and more effective.

Each industry is different, and the marketing tactics they use versus the results they need or want vary. But podcasting has proven itself to be very effective in terms of value-added and marketing opportunities.

There are so many different options you could choose when it comes to marketing your business. Many different agencies you could use or even internal staff with knowledge to run your social media platforms. They all pretty much offer a generic version of the same thing at similar pricing.

We have chosen to niche out in podcasting and video to create the most cost-effective marketing strategies for our clients that are delivering results every day. We do this by creating audio and video gold in our studios and on location!

Content is King.

By creating a podcast with video, we are essentially able to use the audio and video separately in different ways, such as making it downloadable to only the clients’ website, which drives traffic. And, of course, many other ways.

There is also a ton of repurposed content that we generate from creating one simple podcast.

If any company is looking to halve their marketing costs and double their marketing results, start a podcast but do it with the right partner. Make a free booking by clicking the link below.

Why not do a podcast? Then, repurpose that content for marketing!

Your business could have a podcast for less than you think.

When you’ve been in the marketing and media game as long as I have, you begin to recognize certain things that everybody does.

Almost every agency, radio station, social media company overpromises, and underdelivers. They all say the same thing. They charge per click, they do seo and mostly rock manbuns. Point is this. You will struggle, especially as a small business, to get real value out of your marketing unless you approach it differently. Let me give you an example.

Specializing in podcasting and repurposing content

Why would you pay a social media agency $4000 per month for them to basically post a few pics, write a few captions, and run a couple of ads? One, everybody uses the exact same approach. Two, how do you expect to stand out in a sea of penguins?

By producing a podcast, long or shortform, you give yourself the ability to repurpose that video and audio content at a much higher quality for a much lower cost to use at your discretion for marketing or educational purposes. Heck, you might want to do a series of podcasts that point people to your website to buy your educational course created in addition to your podcast. Whatever it is, it needs to be professionally produced, edited, and packaged. Individually, these costs can be unaffordable for small businesses.
